Gestern hatten wir eine Unterrichtseinheit bei Miriam, die wirklich sehr hilfreich war.
Bisher hatte ich ja noch nicht sehr hohe Anforderungen gestellt, damit auf einer freundlichen Basis erstmal eine Beziehung und Vertrauen wachsen können. Diese Basis ist nun da und nun darf die Anforderung auch ein bißchen nach oben geschraubt werden, sprich man darf auch mal ein bißchen etwas verlangen.

Ich bekam gestern eine Menge Detailkorrekturen, die mir sehr helfen, da ich ja bisher ernsthafte Bodenarbeit noch nicht unter Anleitung gemacht habe. Neben dieser Arbeit an mir selber gab es auch Aufgaben für Gladur.

Um seiner Tendenz vor Dingen auszuweichen (rückwärts oder seitwärts) entgegen zu wirken, muss ich nun darauf achten, das Bewegungen wie Wendungen immer in Einzelschritten, Schritt für Schritt, gemacht werden und man sozusagen jeden Schritt einzeln abfragen kann.
Dafür kann man die Übung nach wenigen Schritten unterbrechen, kurz anführen und etwas anderes machen und später fortführen. So kommt merklich Ruhe ins Pferd.

Zusätzlich soll ich Stimmkommandos einführen und nutzen, damit ich ihm helfen kann, zu verstehen, was nun kommt. Als ich mir darufhin gestern Abend eine Liste machte, von Kommandos, die ich bereits sporadisch genutzt habe, habe ich gesehen, dass wir schon einiges auf dem Zettel haben, das werde ich nun konsequent nutzen.

Gezeigt haben wir gestern das Halten, Rückwärtsrichten, Schulter herein und Vor- und Hinterhandwendung, für die wir jeweils Korrekturen erhalten haben, damit wir diese verbessern können.

Zur Abwechslung in der Arbeit habe ich gezeigt bekommen, wie man den Spanischen Schritt vorbereitet, durch die Polka, und wie man diese ebenfalls noch einmal vorbereiten kann.
Damit wir an der Polka Spaß haben müssen wir aber erstmal noch ein bißchen Beine heben auf Berührung mit der Gerte üben. Wenn das gut klappt, können wir mit der Polka anfangen.

Neu zu unserem Repertoire kommt auch die Schaukel/Wippe, bei der man das Pferd eine bestimmte Zahl Schritt vorschickt und dann möglichst fließend umgehend zurück ins Rückwärts mit derselben Anzahl Schritte. Wenn das Pferd durchlässig geworden ist, ist es eine fließende Schaukelbewegung vor und zurück. Bei uns ist es momentan noch ein unwilliges Gestöcker. XD

Außerdem hat mich der Schlingel sehr erfolgreich hereingelegt, er kann nämlich bereits das Kompliment samt tiefer Verbeugung.
Hierbei bin ich das Problem, aber ich werde das auch noch hinbekommen, die Hilfen dafür richtig zu geben.

Ich habe mir jedenfalls gleich als ich nach Hause kam alles Wichtige in ein kleines Notizbuch geschrieben, das wirklich so schmal ist, das man es in der Jackentasche mitnehmen kann. So kann man dann während der Arbeit notfalls noch mal spicken und gucken, ob man wirklich auf alle Details achtet.
Bei Tai Chi Sonderkursen mache ich es genauso, danach schreibe ich alles Neue in eine Kladde, so festigt sich das Ganze auch noch besser im Gedächtnis.

Groundwork – 3

Yesterday, Gladur and me had a very helpful training lesson with Miriam.
So far, I didn’t ask much of him, so we could build a foundation of trust and get to know eachother in a peaceful situation. We have now reached a stage where we can raise the bar some and begin more serious work now.

Presenting myself to a teacher, I got a lot of corrections, which is very good, as I have never before done groundwork under the eyes of a teacher, so it helps tremenduously to hear where I am correct and where not. Currently it is more not. *g* And of course, there are things to work on for Gladur as well.

To correct his tendency to escape any kind of pressure (sideways or backwards), I have to pay attention now to make sure that each complex move is executed step by step and without haste. You have to be able to ask for every single step of the complete move. Like this, you do not only get more control over the horse, but also add a factor of calm to the work, there is no need to rush if it is possible that only one step will be asked for.

Additionally, we’ll have to use voice-commands a lot more. So I am going to establish them and use them consequently now. When I made a list of things that theoretically have a command already, I was quite astonished to see that those are already quite a few.

We presented stopping, going backwards, shoulder in (sidepassing move), turn around the forehand and turn around the hindlegs and got corrections for those moves, so we can do them better.

To get some diversion in the routines, Miriam showed us how to prepare the Spanish Walk by doing the Polka and how to prepare the Polka in turn, because we’ll have to work on raising all four legs (one after the other) on touch signal (and voice command) quite a lot before we are going to have fun with that, LOL!!

New in our portfolio is „the swing“, in which you lead the horse forward a certain number of steps (one per hoof for example), stop it and send it back for exact the same number of steps. If the horse is paying attention and letting through the aids you give, then it is one fluid wavelike movement to and fro. With us, it is more a controlled stalling to and fro, LOL!! That will take us a while. XD

Then I was quite surprised by seeing that the dear pony does a perfect compliment even combined with bowing the head already- so the wicked little thing has been leading me on for months, getting tons of treats and pretending not to know what I want, LOL!!
But of course, in this case it is my imprecise way of telling him how to, I have to learn this as this is entirely new to me.

Anyhow, as soon as I got home, I sat down and scribbled all the important input into a small notepad. It is small enough for a pocket, so I can bring it to work with the horse and check if I got the facts straight, so to speak.
I always do that after Tai Chi courses, too, because not only do you have written reference, you can also commit the new things easier to memory like this.
