Auf dem Balkon
…wuchert es fröhlich vor sich hin, auch wenn die Pflanzen nicht so weit sind wie im letzten Jahr, es ist einfach zu kühl.

Immer mal wieder eine interessante Frage. Ich lese im Moment das hier:
Kein Wunder, dass ich immer eine sehr lustige Mischung an Buchempfehlungen kriege. *g* Das Qi Gong Buch ist allerdings alt, das hab ich schon lange, aber nun verstehe ich endlich ansatzweise, worüber geschrieben wird. *g*What do you read currently? That’s a question that is often asked and right now the answer shows excellently how widespread my interests in reading are. *g*
No surprise that I always get very funny recommendations from shops, LOL!!
The Qi Gong book I have for a long time, though, but it is only now that I finally begin to understand what it is about. *g* -

Heute bin ich quasi über eine geniale Neuheit von Schleich gestolpert. Neu im Programm ist das Auruun-Set, mit einem asiatischen Wasserdrachen. Je länger ich es ansah, desto weniger wollte ich es wieder loslassen. Nun ja… *g* Die Bemalung is grottig, aber *das* kann man ja ändern, ich habe schon ein paar Ideen, ich liebe diese Drachenform.
Ich schwanke dazwischen den Drachen nach einem dreifarbigen Koi zu bemalen oder was mit ganz vielen Blau- und Grüntönen. Mal sehen, für was ich mich entscheide.
Das hier ist der Drache, wie gesagt, die Bemalung sieht merkwürdig aus, aber Form und Details sind super:
Wenn ich solche Farben hätte würde ich auch grimmig schauen. *g*
Today I trundled past a toystore and found out that Schleich has made a most awesome large sculpture of an Asiatic Waterdragon – with the worst paintjob in the world. But the sculpture is very well done.
Once I held it in my hands my brain was flooded with ideas how to paint it. So of course I caved in and bought it. Also, this year is the year of the Waterdragon, so this very fitting indeed, LOL!! (Excuses, excuses)
Holding it, my ideas of colours are narrowing down to two different possibilities. I love the idea that they had, painting it patterned like a Koi- just messing it up in executing this properly. So one idea would be to find a fish in my favourite Koi patterns and paint after photo reference.
The other ideas is black over darkblues, darkgreens, lighter greens to gold on the fins. Like a gem from the river.
Hmmmm, tough decision… I think I will have to ponder this for a while… Maybe the dragon itself has an opinion, too… -
Heute war ich zu einem ganztägigen Qi Gong Kurs bei Birgit (der großartig war, wieder neue Aha-Erlebnisse) – Tai Chi Schule Birgit Siemssen
In der Mittagspause war ich an der Elbe. Von einem kurzen Schauer abgesehen, war es wunderschön da.

Die größte Überraschung war die hier- eine von meinen Mini Marks, die nach einem durchblühten Winter ziemlich in den Seilen hingen. Anscheined gefällt ihnen die Anreicherung des Substrats mit Moos, sie waren ja schon immer eher durstige Pflanzen. Jetzt macht eine ein neues Blatt und die andere:
Und hier noch meine beiden Prachtstücke, die sich nun anscheinend gut eingewöhnt haben, da sie prima wachsen.

Some are already in bloom as shown above.
Others work busily on new spikes and buds. The biggest surprise was one of my Mini Marks, though. After those had bloomed on stubbornly all winter through, they were kinda spent toward the February. I gave them a wellness-treatment by adding some Spaghnum moss to their substrate (because they are pretty thirsty – don’t do that with plants that prefer it more on the dry side!) and apparently they like it well. One of them makes a new leaf and the other the spike pictured above.
And on the last two pictures my best growing orchids, who keep going unerringly and grow apart from leaves and roots now also a spike each.
(The spike of the Phal. Mashimo (the larger one) will be fixed to the rod with something less obvious once it has finished growing. Currently it is so tender still, though, that anything harder than the cushioned wire used here would leave dents and scratches.) -
Nach einer langen, aber interessanten Woche (Bibliothekartag 2012 in Hamburg) ist nun das lange Pfingstwochenende da und sogar das Wetter ist wunderbar! Sonnenschein, 26C mit leichtem Wind- wie am Meer.
Ich sitze gerade auf dem Balkon unter meinem neuen Sonnenschirm- so gefällt mir das sommerliche Wetter auch. *g*

Mein Sonnenschirm, irgendwie ziemlich retro, aber die anderen waren alle zu groß für meinen Balkon..

Gestern beim Einkaufen habe ich noch zwei Sofakissen gefunden, die perfekt zu meinen neuen Sesselüberzügen passen:
Life is good! After a long but interesting week (librarian congress 2012), I am now enjoying the long weekend. Surprisingly, even the weather is good, we have 26C, sunshine and a slight breeze that gives you a seaside feeling.
Finally I can try out my new parasol also, which does look slightly retro I suppose, but was the only one there that would fit onto my Balkony size-wise.
The second images shows what I am looking at when I look up now.
And then I really have to show off the nice pillows that I found yesterday, which perfectly match the new covers of my armchairs. -

Heute haben meine Mutter und ich Oma besucht und sind danach noch zur Petrikirche gegangen und kurzentschlossen auf den Turm gefahren.
Heute ist das alles vollautomatisch vor dem Aufzug – ich kenn das noch mit Aufzugswärter, der mitfuhr und Karten abriss. Heute gibts da einen Scanner mit Drehkreuz.
Und oben ist auch keiner mehr der aufpasst, stattdessen ist nun alles vergittert:

etwas Kies und das sowieso reichlich wuchernde Kissenmoos, packe alles hübsch zusammen und, tadaaa! Der Mini-Steingarten ist fertig:

Pick one rooftile (big thanks to Norbert!), some suitable plants (Sempervivum in this case), a handful of gravel and the richly growing moss (grrhh) and mix it all together. *g* Of course in a way that pleases the eye. And tadaa! An instant miniature stone garden.
The tile was then placed in my kitchenwindow and I hope the plants do not grow too fast. *g* -
Meine schmollende Ornithophora radicans ist anscheinend nicht ganz so kreuzunglücklich wie ich dachte, denn heute habe ich mehrere kleine Blütentriebe entdeckt, hurra! 😀
Da diese wirklich winzig sind, war es ganz schön schwer diese einigermaßen scharf zustellen:
My sulking Ornithophora radicans does not seem to be as cross with me as I thought, because today I found serveral tiny little spikes on it, whee! 😀
They are really really tiny, so I got only mediocre pictures. When they flower, I will use a tripod for sharper images, I think. -

The Amerias have now started with blooming, the first mini-blossoms are open. And the hydrangea keeps adding volume to herself.

Vor einem Jahr, im März 2011, bekam ich dieses „kleine“ Fensterblatt (Monstera):

Der Pflanzstab ist 110cm lang, die Pflanze ohne Topf auch.
One year ago in March I got a cute „little“ Monstera, and now, one year later it is more than twice as large than before. The climbing-help is 110cm long and so is the plant, at the topmost leaf.

Heute habe ich meine Ludisia in eine Pflanzschale umgesetzt, sieht jetzt fast etwas nach Bonsai aus.*g*
Die Schale hat unten eine dicke Schicht Blähton-Kugeln zur besseren Drainage und erst darüber die Blumenerde.
Hier sieht man die wunderschönen Blätter nochmal besser:
Unten an der Planze gibt es drei Jungtriebe, einen großen und zwei kleinere, aber oben am Stamm sieht es nach mehreren Seitentrieben aus. Dieser hier ist am weitesten in der Entwicklung.

Today, I have repotted my Ludisia and planted her into a ceramic bowl. On the bottom of the bowl is a thick layer of clay-balls, for better drainage. On top of that, I put ordinary soil again.
On the second image, you get a glimpse of the beautiful (in my opinion) leaves.
The last image shows one of several spots where the plant produces an offshoot- this one is the one that is most obviously visible already. -

Auf dem Balkon
Grünt und blüht es. Hier sind aktuelle Bilder.
Die Zuckerhut-Fichte wird jedes Jahr breiter:

Die Dalien sind wie erwartet nicht alt geworden – ihr Ersatz wird mich aber länger begeistern, Bornholm-Margueriten.
Die Hortensie treibt inzwischen auch kräftig neu:
Und das hier ist meine neueste Errungenschaft, eine Dipladenia (Mandevilla)“Sundaville Red“ – die Kamera fängt das Rot nicht richtig ein, die ist wirklich Dunkelrot.
Die Planze ist nicht frostfest und darf deshalb erst nach den Eisheiligen raus. (Überwintern als Zimmerpflanze, temperiert-warm, also kein Problem)So- noch eine Pflanze mehr? Nöööö! Zu dieser Pflanze kam es folgendermaßen:
Heute morgen hab ich ganz ganz vorsichtig mal in den Canna-Töpfen nach dem rechten gesehen, weil ich nicht nur neugierig war, sondern auch das unbestimmte Gefühl hatte, das da was nicht stimmt. Gut das ich das gemacht habe.
Das größere Rhizom hat tatsächlich ausgetrieben, aber die Erde oben drauf hat sich verdichtet und der Trieb kam nicht vorwärts und hat schon angefangen im Bogen wieder nach unten zu wachsen. Da habe ich also die Erde gelockert und den Trieb sachte neu ausgerichtet. Der wird dann demnächst rauskommen. *freu*
Im anderen Topf ist gar nichts passiert- naja, bis auf die Tatsache das das zweite Rhizom vor sich hingegammelt hat- es war offensichtlich tot. Ich hatte es also entsorgt und dann den freien Topf rausgeräumt.
Eigentlich wollte ich dafür dann ein paar Petunien kaufen, aber aber als ich am Blumenladen war und diese riesigen roten Blüten gesehen habe, wars um mich geschehen. Immerhin hab ich mich vorher ja noch nach den Kulturbedingungen erkundigt, so dass dieses Prachtstück hier eine realistische Chance hat sich wohlzufühlen.
Da die neue Pflanze gar keinen Frost mag, kann ich sie noch ein paar Wochen drinnen halten und bestaunen, da sie auch als Zimmerpflanze geeignet ist, macht ihr das gar nichts aus.Die Canna-Ausgrabung hat mal wieder gezeigt, das man immer auf sein Bauchgefühl hören soll, besonders was Pflanzen angeht. Ich hab jedenfalls beschlossen, Kulturanleitungen nur noch als Orientierung zu nehmen und die Pflanzen nach Gefühl zu pflegen- die die ich so behandelt habe, sind alle fit and gut gewachsen. Dagegen habe ich mit Hilfe von klugen Anleitungen aus Büchern, die ich entgegen meiner Ahnung wörtlich befolgte, schon einige Pflänzchen um die Ecke gebracht.

Above you see the progress of all the inhabitants on my balcony, growing everywhere there, too.
The last plant featured there is my newest one, I found it today. It is a Dipladenia(=Mandevilla) „Sundaville Red“ and simply awesome. I barely dared to ask about it, but it is not difficult at all and can even live as a true indoor plant, even if it prefers the summer outdoors. Thanks to that, getting it over the winter is not a problem, because it will not mind the normal room temperature.
So, is that yet another plant? No, it is a replacement.
This morning I felt I really should check inside the Canna-pots if anything was happening and so I very, very carefully dug into them with my fingers, pausing whenever I felt something through the gloves. In one pot, there was growing activity, hooray! But had I not looked, it would have turned into a big fail- the soil on top was too compact and the new shoot was not getting through and attempting a fatal U-turn. I loosend up the soil and gently straightened the shoot and am now very optimistic to see it peek out, soon.
In the other pot, there was nothing alive. The Rhizome in there was obviously dead and even already starting to decompose. I removed it, put the empty pot out and decided that I would plant some Petunias in there. But when I came to the flowershop and saw that table with those red beauties (they had some in white, too), I was totally in „want-take-have“ mode, LOL!! I barely dared asking about how to keep it, sure I would be disappointed, but to my great delight chances are good that it will like it here.The Canna episode shows, how important it is to listen to your gut-feeling especially when dealing with living things like plants. I have killed plants by following how-tos to the letter and against my personal opinion, while those plants who are in some cases unconventionally kept and spoiled here all grow well. So much for that.

Fast überall. Nur in den Canna-Töpfen passiert…nichts. Vielleicht sollte ich sie mal zum Monster rüber schieben.
Naja, trösten wir uns mit den fleissigen Orchideen. (Eins vorweg, ja, ich muss dringend die Orchideen entstauben! *hüstel*)
Diese hier ist am weitesten und wird bald wieder blühen: Phal. Zoro Amato
Die Phal. bellina hatte mich zunächst geärgert, indem sie ihren Blütentrieb wachsen ließ- nur um ihn dann an der Spitze eintrocknen zu lassen und doch lieber ein Blatt anzufangen. (das freut mich allerdings fast noch mehr als Blüten) Doch was sieht man da? Sie macht einen neuen Blütentrieb!
Das schöne neue Blättchen:
Die kleine Doritaenopsis Gotris SOGO F-1917 ist meine fleissigste Orchidee, die sich auch im Winter nicht am Wachsen hindern ließ- nun wird sie die ersten zwei Blütentriebe hier bilden. Auf dem Bild ist der größere zusehen. *freu*
Und meine waschechte Baumarkt-Hybride namens Phal. Mashimo ist nun auch fleissig dabei mir einen schönen ersten „selbst erpflegten“ Blütentrieb zu bauen:

So better turn towards my busy orchids, who really love the longer daytime and the more intense light (with shading!). And yeah, I really need to wash the dust off of them, ahem! *blushes*Phal. Zoro Amato is the fastest, its newest bud will soon open, just a couple of days more.
Phal. bellina made me grumble at first, because it let its spike grow and hinted at a bud, when suddenly shriveling the tip of the spike up and making a new leaf instead. But that leaf is cause for delight, too! And look, now it makes a second spike!Doritaenopsis Gotris SOGO F-1917 is the busiest orchid that I own, it did not even let the darkest winterdays keep it from constantly growing. And now it delights me with the first two spikes produced here with me. On the picture is the larger one visible under the leaves.
And last but not least- almost as constantly growing was also my spotted Phal. Mashimo, who is now delighting me with the first new spike produced here, too. It grows very fast, I wonder how tall it will get.
