Blüten in Arbeit

English Version:
This and that

I have a new poster for the big empty wall above my stereo- now it is no longer so empty, LOL!! It says in many words why music is awesome and shows such a nice guitar. Just perfect!
And a new orchid, ahem. ^-^ The Nelly Isler did not make it, it got a severe case of mildew and I value my health higher in that case and put her away before this could spread. So today I was planning to look for a replacement Nelly at the new Obi. But I never made it past the awesome plant pictured above. It seems to be a close relative to the Jungle Monarch, but what it is exactly I do not know. But those lovely warm colours! As if having galizions of little sundowns on your table- or autumn leaves. Just perfectly warm on days with such crappy weather.

EDIT: A member of the orchid forum just suggested this could be an Odontocidium (=Colmanara) Catatante ‘Pacific Sunspots’. The photos coming up in an image-search look a lot like my plant, but I am not sure if this is really it.

And above you can also see my bedroom window with the temperate to cool orchids. They pretend to be green plants, but theoretically, they could bloom as well- as soon as they have finished their new growth.

Blütentriebe, so weit das Auge reicht! :-)

Doriteanopsis Black Jack

English Version:
Showing off the spikes starting to grow everwhere! First those which I already watched progress with delight. And then the lower three plants surprised me, because I wasn’t expecting anything yet. The biggest surprise of all was the not-so-small-any-more Doriteanopsis Black Jack which has grown gigantically and was mockingly sorted into green stuff by me- and now it apparently prepares two(!) spikes to prove me wrong. Wow!

Wachstum

English Summary:
Growth!
My Dendrobium keikis have moved all together into a better manageable pot now- their new home for the next years. They are nine months potted now and looking still perky.

Proudly showing off the shoots that my orchids of the cooler places have going. All the books say that there is slower growth during the winter due reduced light and such. Well, I can’t say that we have sunshine everyday here and still they are happily growing. Very pleased with that! Here is hoping for some flowers in spring.
I am also glad that the Nelly Isler has recovered so well, it looks very healthy now, it must like my kitchen.

Howeara BT

Odontioda Stirbic

English Summary:
Growth everywhere, the orchids are pretty active currently.
First on the pictures above you see the impressive new shoot of the Bratonia Tessa- even more so impressive, when recalling that it came into existence in September, that’s a lot of growing in just one month.

Then the surprise-new-growth of the month: And the award goes to- Nelly Isler, LOL!!
I was really baffled to find a shoot on the older bulb today- after flowering, the plant looked so wrung out that I did not think that anything would happen until spring.

Then the progress of the spikes on the two Phals- growing happily. I really love how already the spike is colourful on the Phal. Mashimo.

And then there was this little thing on the Howeara Lava Burst- or wasn’t it? Squintings didn’t help, I couldn’t see the tiny thing sharp enough, so I took piccies. And there is definitely something. And in the picture against the light, it definitely looks as if it might be a tiny spike in the making. Sooo exciting!

And on the Odontioda, the colours are slowly fading from the flowers- the yellow pattern of them is already white.

Endlich!

English Summary:
Last night the last blossom on my possible Odontioda has finally opened, yay! I love how the flowers look like. 😀
And I moved the Nelly Isler into the kitchen today, after ending the blooming by cutting the spike. The plant does not have the best roots ever and looked already very spent, so that I decided to help it to an early rest. Now it can hopefully recover next to its comrades on the kitchen windowsill.

And tomorrow, I will pot the Amaryllis bulbs! 😀

Neutrieb
Neutrieb

Now that the first blossom has opened nearly completely and a second one, too, I am reasonably certain that my supermarket find might be an Odontioda Stirbic (Odontioda = Odontoglossum x Miltonia). I am totally looking forward to see the whole spike in bloom!
Above you see images of the flowers with and without flash.

I had to throw the weakened Miss Milton away recently, because all that grew was an impressive array of mold on it and I wasn’t willing to take chances on this with the colder season coming. By chance I saw a much easier “relative” of the plant at Blume 2000 last week and used the opportunity.
It’s a Burrageara Nelly Isler (Oncidium x Cochlioda x Miltonia x Odontoglossum) and I hope it starts to feel at home before the winter is here. The orchid will live in the kitchen with the other two, as soon as it finished flowering.

Already here for a month but never formally introduced is my Bratonia Tessa (Bratonia = Brassia x Miltonia).
It arrived at the end of August and has since produced a very enthusiastic new shoot which you can see on the pictures above. I hope it keeps growing even with less light in winter, so that I can hope for new awesome blossoms next spring.

Amaryllis

Rote Hybride in Knospe

This year I am going to raise my own Amaryllis from bulbs for winter time. The bulbs arrived today already, the name of this variety is Hippeastrum Amaryllis Rapido and the colour is deep red. I will update when I start the Amaryllis project and the first traces of growth become visible. 🙂
Speaking of growth- I am still waiting for the blossoms of that red orchid to open- I am now suspecting that all buds will open simultaneously, which means I have to wait longer until the smallest ones have developed more, too.

Das neue Glas und Anderes

Idee gleich umgesetzt!

The new glas and other things
Idea turned real immediately! I found a candle glas already at Thevs (first place I was going to check) and when I came home with it, I went to the balcony to remove Miss Milton from the pot there and take her in. The plant got a very throrough shower in the shower to make sure that no little guests are imported with it.
The roots were in an awful condition, no new growth anywhere, not even on the shoots – that much for the more dense mix of substrate that was suggested by several sites for this type of plant. Now the plant gets to recover in airy pine bark so that there might be a chance to avoid rot at least… Plant also got a new makeshift pot from the bottom of a plastic bottle, because in that the ratio between roots and substrate was ok again. Then some clay-balls into the glass, the walls sprayed with water thoroughly and then the plant right in there. I hope it will recover somewhat like this.
Now I have all plants in the kitchen where they belong and I immediately like the window much better.
On the plant next to the new one in the kitchen, you can see almost daily how the buds grow bigger. Not much longer and I can enjoy the first blossom, I think.
And last but not least, my second livingroom window- I realised that I showed only the other side with the Phals in my posts. Well, here is the other side.
Maybe I should put the bigger Dendrobium next to the kindergarten in the glasses to encourage them to try for some height. *g*

Wo ich sie gerade erwähnt hatte…

… das hier ist übrigens das was Miss Milton draußen gerade macht- Miniatur-Neutriebe, aber versuchen zu blühen will sie trotzdem:
Miss Milton

Dendro nobile hybrid

Since I had just mentioned her…
…here’s what Miss Milton is currently doing outdoors: minature shoots, but trying to bloom anyways.
And my Dendrobium Nobile Hybrid is still happily growing, looking much fluffier already thanks to the bigger new shoot (behind the rod).

Orchideen-Ersatz

Orchid-Replacement:
On my birthday, I had found an Oncidium Sweet Sugar at IKEA, but unfortunately that plant did already have some damages in the root area and didn’t make it.
Yesterday I was at IKEA again and found a worthy replacement by chance. And cheap, too. (I know, I have promised myself to stay faaaar away from cheap little plants, because they normally just cost a lot of time and effort and die anyway, but here it was obviously a healthy plant. Irresistible.)
It’s a Odontocidium/Colmanara Jungle Monarch (Miltonia X Odontoglossum X Oncidium)
I found additional info here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/97937/ I quote said page: “It was once classified as Colmanara Jungle Monarch but with recent name changes, the Miltonia warscewiczii parent is now Oncidium fuscatum, hence this hybrid was renamed as an Odontocidium from Colmanara.”
But whatever the name, I love the colourful blossoms and they are even somewhat fragrant around morning / midday, I just couldn’t place the smell, yet.
The last picture illustrates how lucky I was- all those roots there are ok, nothing hollow or murky. Now I hope it will feel at home quickly here.
After a short quarantine, it is going to live in the flowerbox in the kitchen with the plant featured in the post below. Miss Milton is going to move into a high Vase and can live next to them.

Knospe Multihybride

The plant that was saved this January from the supermarktet is still busy with its new spike. On the second image you can already glimpse a hint of the pattern through the little “cover” on the bud. And there are going to be six blossoms, that’s one more than in January! Squee!
