Die Phal. Liodoro wird schonmal auf das Leben als „Hängepflanze“ vorbereitet. *g* Ich finde, so sieht das mit dem Blütentrieb auch viel natürlicher aus.
Das hier ist der faulste Weihnachtskaktus aller Zeiten- will schon seit Jahren nicht blühen:
Deshalb gibts jetzt Konkurrenz! Diese Blättchen stammen von dem weißblühenden Kaktus meiner Mutter- der immer schön regelmäßig blüht. Ich bewurzele die Stückchen nun und pflanze sie dann ein.
Und noch etwas Stimmungsvolles für die dunkle Jahreszeit- meine neuen Laternen:

Then we have the laziest Schlumbergera ever- all it ever does is making leaves, but never even the tiniest bud. So now it gets a rival, LOL!! Those little leaves in the glas are from Mum’s white Schlumbergera, which blooms like a clockwork twice a year. When they get roots, I plant them into a little pot and then we’ll see.
And lastly, something atmospheric for the upcoming long dark nights-a very pretty lantern-holder in oriental style.
So gerade eben rechtzeitig vor dem Winter mit den kurzen kühlen Tagen, sind noch zwei Orchideen hier eingetrudelt, die sich hoffentlich noch eingewöhnen bevor das Licht knapper wird.
Die eine ist winzig klein, das längste Blatt misst 12cm, und diese Pflanze wird auch nicht größer (was die Höhe angeht). Es ist eine Howeara Lava Burst „Red Bug“:

Das andere ist eine Phalaenopsis Liodoro, eine Hybride, die ich schon länger haben wollte, da sie den tollen Zitronenduft der Phalaenopsis violacea/bellina geerbt hat. Als ich diese Pflanzen nun in einer Verkaufsaktion supergünstig bei einem Orchideen-Händler sah, habe ich gleich zugeschlagen. Auf Grund des Preises dachte ich, ich bekomme eine Pflanze ohne Blütentrieb- was habe ich mich gefreut als ich sie auspackte, denn die Pflanze beginnt gerade mit der Blüte.
Und hier mit einem Elternteil, sozusagen, man sieht die Verwandschaft gut:

Phalaenopsis Deventeriana ist selbst eine Hybride aus folgenden Pflanzen: Phalaenopsis amabilis x Phalaenopsis amboinensis
English Summary:
Just in time before the short and dark winter days come, I got a parcel with two orchids and am now hoping they settle well before the light gets scarce.
One of them is really mini- the longest leaf measures 12cm. The name is Howeara Lava Burst „Red Bug“. When it gets into bloom, it will have tiny red flowers, as shown in the link above.
The other is a Phalaenopsis Liodoro, a hybrid that I wanted for quite a while, because it inherits the wonderful citrus smell of the Phalaenopsis violacea/bellina family. When I saw it for a very good price in the webshop of an orchid-gardener here, I really had to pounce the opportunity. Since the price was so good, I was expecting a plant without spike, but to my delight I unwrapped a plant that was just getting into bloom!
Above, you see it pictured with one „parent“, the Phal. bellina. The other parent is Phalaenopsis Deventeriana a hybrid of Phalaenopsis amabilis x Phalaenopsis amboinensis.
Nein, aber der Deckel ist aufgehübscht! Was so ein sogenannter Skin so ausmacht, ist schon cool. Und es gibt noch so viele andere Motive. (Suchtgefahr *g*)
New laptop? Nope, but the lid was pimped with a skin- isn’t the result awesome? Gone are the scratches beneath it. And there are so many other motives that look great, too. (Very addictive, I fear, LOL!!)

Und die Nelly Isler ist nun auch in die Küche umgezogen, ich habe den Blütentrieb gekappt, weil die Pflanze nicht so tolle Wurzeln hat und schon ziemlich verausgabt aussah, jetzt kann sie sich erstmal erholen (hoffentlich). So siehts nun in der Küche aus, ich finde die Orchideen machen sich da prima.
Und morgen werden dann die Amaryllis getopft! 😀

Last night the last blossom on my possible Odontioda has finally opened, yay! I love how the flowers look like. 😀
And I moved the Nelly Isler into the kitchen today, after ending the blooming by cutting the spike. The plant does not have the best roots ever and looked already very spent, so that I decided to help it to an early rest. Now it can hopefully recover next to its comrades on the kitchen windowsill.
And tomorrow, I will pot the Amaryllis bulbs! 😀

Jetzt, da Blüte 1 komplett offen ist und die zweite auch fast, bin ich mir ziemlich sicher, dass es sich bei meiner aus dem Supermarkt geretteten Mehrgattungshybride um eine Odontioda Stirbic handeln müsste. (Odontioda = Odontoglossum x Miltonia)

Dann musste ich mich leider von Miss Milton verabschieden, da alles, was im Glas gut gewachsen ist, eine Schimmelpilz-Kultur war. Bei Blume 2000 habe ich zufällig eine pflegeleichtere Verwandte der Verblichenen entdeckt und gleich zugeschlagen. Hoffentlich lebt sie sich gut ein bevor der Winter kommt.

Schon einen Monat hier, aber noch nicht vorgestellt ist meine Bratonia Tessa. (Bratonia = Brassia x Miltonia)
In diesem Monat ist der Pflanze schon ein beachtlicher Neutrieb gewachsen:
Now that the first blossom has opened nearly completely and a second one, too, I am reasonably certain that my supermarket find might be an Odontioda Stirbic (Odontioda = Odontoglossum x Miltonia). I am totally looking forward to see the whole spike in bloom!

I had to throw the weakened Miss Milton away recently, because all that grew was an impressive array of mold on it and I wasn’t willing to take chances on this with the colder season coming. By chance I saw a much easier „relative“ of the plant at Blume 2000 last week and used the opportunity.
It’s a Burrageara Nelly Isler (Oncidium x Cochlioda x Miltonia x Odontoglossum) and I hope it starts to feel at home before the winter is here. The orchid will live in the kitchen with the other two, as soon as it finished flowering.
Already here for a month but never formally introduced is my Bratonia Tessa (Bratonia = Brassia x Miltonia).
It arrived at the end of August and has since produced a very enthusiastic new shoot which you can see on the pictures above. I hope it keeps growing even with less light in winter, so that I can hope for new awesome blossoms next spring.

Dieses Jahr werde ich zur Adventszeit meine eigenen Amaryllis-Zwiebeln (hoffentlich) zum Blühen bringen. Heute sind die Zwiebeln gekommen, es handelt sich Hippeastrum Amaryllis Rapido in einfarbigem Rot. Das Wachstum werde ich dann hier dokumentieren. 🙂
Apropos Wachstum- hier warte ich immer noch. Langsam glaube ich, dass die Pflanze alle Knospen auf einmal öffnen will und darum auch die jüngsten Knospen erst noch ausreifen müssen.
This year I am going to raise my own Amaryllis from bulbs for winter time. The bulbs arrived today already, the name of this variety is Hippeastrum Amaryllis Rapido and the colour is deep red. I will update when I start the Amaryllis project and the first traces of growth become visible. 🙂
Speaking of growth- I am still waiting for the blossoms of that red orchid to open- I am now suspecting that all buds will open simultaneously, which means I have to wait longer until the smallest ones have developed more, too.

Just in case anybody is still using IE (*g*), the program versions 6 to 9 are having a dangerous bug that allows exploits. In Germany, even an organ of the government AND Microsoft have issued a warning. Safest solutions is not to use the IE until Microsoft has fixed the problem with a browser update. Idee gleich umgesetzt! Ich habe bei Thevs ein schönes großes Windlicht gefunden – welches auch nur halb so teuer war wie ein vergleichbares Glas bei einem Mitbewerber in der Nähe.*g*
Wieder zu Hause, habe ich Miss Milton gleich ausgetopft und hereingeholt und dann erstmal gründlichst geduscht, damit sie keine Souvenirs von draußen mitbringt.
Die Wurzeln waren in miserablem Zustand und auch an den Neutrieben fast kein Wurzelwachstum- soviel zu der stärker wasserspeichernden Substratmischung… die Ärmste darf sich nun erstmal in reiner Pinienrinde erholen. Ich habe ihr aus dem unteren Teil einer Plastik-Wasserflasche einen Topf gebastelt, in dem das Verhältnis zwischen Wurzelmasse und Substrat wieder ok ist. Dann ein paar Tonkugeln ins Glas, die Wände einmal kräftig besprüht und dann hinein mit ihr. Ich hoffe, dass sie sich darin etwas erholen kann.
Nun sind alle Pflanzen in der Küche „am Platz“ und schon gefällt mir das Fenster dort auch ganz prima:
Man kann nun beinahe täglich sehen, dass die Knospen wieder ein bisschen größer geworden sind:
Und irgendwie hab ich in letzter Zeit immer nur das Wohnzimmerfenster mit den Nopsen gezeigt- hier ist die andere Seite:
Vielleicht sollte ich das größere Dendrobium mal neben den Kindergarten in den Gläsern stellen, damit die sich angespornt fühlen ein bißchen in die Höhe zu wachsen. *g*
The new glas and other things
Idea turned real immediately! I found a candle glas already at Thevs (first place I was going to check) and when I came home with it, I went to the balcony to remove Miss Milton from the pot there and take her in. The plant got a very throrough shower in the shower to make sure that no little guests are imported with it.
The roots were in an awful condition, no new growth anywhere, not even on the shoots – that much for the more dense mix of substrate that was suggested by several sites for this type of plant. Now the plant gets to recover in airy pine bark so that there might be a chance to avoid rot at least… Plant also got a new makeshift pot from the bottom of a plastic bottle, because in that the ratio between roots and substrate was ok again. Then some clay-balls into the glass, the walls sprayed with water thoroughly and then the plant right in there. I hope it will recover somewhat like this.
Now I have all plants in the kitchen where they belong and I immediately like the window much better.
On the plant next to the new one in the kitchen, you can see almost daily how the buds grow bigger. Not much longer and I can enjoy the first blossom, I think.
And last but not least, my second livingroom window- I realised that I showed only the other side with the Phals in my posts. Well, here is the other side.
Maybe I should put the bigger Dendrobium next to the kindergarten in the glasses to encourage them to try for some height. *g*

And my Dendrobium Nobile Hybrid is still happily growing, looking much fluffier already thanks to the bigger new shoot (behind the rod).
An meinem Geburtstag hatte ich bei Ikea ein Oncidium Sweet Sugar gefunden, was sich allerdings als vorgeschädigt herausstellte und schnell einging. Gestern war ich auch bei Ikea und habe zwar keine Übertöpfe gefunden, aber ein Orchideen-Schnäppchen. Ja, ich weiß, eigentlich wollte ich um die Schnäppchen ja einen Bogen machen, weil die meist nur Arbeit und Mühe kosten und dann doch eingehen. Aber hier hab ich definitiv Glück gehabt. Und nun habe ich einen würdigen Ersatz für die andere Pflanze:
Odontocidium/Colmanara Jungle Monarch (Miltonia X Odontoglossum X Oncidium) (nach Umordnung der Elternpflanzen in andere Gattungen auch Onc. Debutante X Onc. maculatum)
Die Blüten riechen übrigens! Heute Morgen (ehm, Mittag) haben sie gerochen, ich weiß den Duft nur nicht einzuordnen. Muss morgen nochmal schnuppern.
Warum Glück? Weil die Orchidee in einem super Zustand ist- man beachte die Wurzelmenge:
Nach einer kurzen Quarantäne wird die Pflanze in dem Blumenkasten in der Küche wohnen, zusammen mit der Pflanze mit den roten Knospen. Miss Milton wird in ein großes Glas umziehen und daneben stehen.

On my birthday, I had found an Oncidium Sweet Sugar at IKEA, but unfortunately that plant did already have some damages in the root area and didn’t make it.
Yesterday I was at IKEA again and found a worthy replacement by chance. And cheap, too. (I know, I have promised myself to stay faaaar away from cheap little plants, because they normally just cost a lot of time and effort and die anyway, but here it was obviously a healthy plant. Irresistible.)
It’s a Odontocidium/Colmanara Jungle Monarch (Miltonia X Odontoglossum X Oncidium)
I found additional info here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/97937/ I quote said page: „It was once classified as Colmanara Jungle Monarch but with recent name changes, the Miltonia warscewiczii parent is now Oncidium fuscatum, hence this hybrid was renamed as an Odontocidium from Colmanara.“
But whatever the name, I love the colourful blossoms and they are even somewhat fragrant around morning / midday, I just couldn’t place the smell, yet.
The last picture illustrates how lucky I was- all those roots there are ok, nothing hollow or murky. Now I hope it will feel at home quickly here.
After a short quarantine, it is going to live in the flowerbox in the kitchen with the plant featured in the post below. Miss Milton is going to move into a high Vase and can live next to them.

Das Layout von meinem Blog hier ist neu.
Ich habe mir das Theme Weaver II mal genauer angeschaut und festgestellt, das ich Monate brauchen würde bis ich alles mal ausprobiert hätte- perfekt flexibel für meine Seite, würde ich sagen. Deshalb habe ich mich nun erstmal darin eingerichtet. Mein Plan ist, ein paar Jahreszeiten-Layouts zu basteln, zwischen denen ich dann wechseln kann. Mal sehen wann ich das schaffe. Vielleicht sollte ich mit Winter/Weihnachten anfangen.
Bei diesem Umzug des Themas musste ich mich zwangsweise mal wieder grafisch betätigen und habe dabei Funktionen an meinen alten Programmen gefunden, die ich sonst noch nie genutzt habe- schon lustig was man so findet wenn man weiß wonach man sucht.
Welche Programme ich benutze? Paint. NET, Gimp, PhotoImpact 6 (ja, das läuft noch so gerade auf Win7 32 Bit) und ganz selten Corel Photopaint.
(Natürlich wär Photoshop auch toll, aber das liebe Geld… (Ich glaube nämlich nicht, das die PS Elements Version für das was ich so mache ausreicht.)
So lernt man eben kreativ sein- die oben genannten Programme können zusammen prinzipiell das Gleiche wie PS- man muss sie nur dazu bringen. *g* )
Noch mehr neu- ja neue Blätter! Meine Orchideen haben die Spinnmilben allesamt recht gut überlebt und sind jetzt voll im Wachstumsmodus:
Phalaenopsis bellina blüht als Einzige noch. Das hier ist die zweite Blüte diesen Jahres, aber es sieht so aus als wäre noch eine Knospe in Arbeit:
Und neu wieder im Topf- meine kleine gelbe Orchidee mit Zitronenduft.
Sie hatte ja noch eine Wurzel und die neu wachsenden Würzelchen sahen prima aus, deshalb ist die Pflanze nun von der Tüte in den Minitopf gezogen und macht das bisher prima.
Everything new *g*
The layout of this blog is new.
I took a closer look at the Theme Weaver II and was overwhelmed by the included possiblities – it would take me months to try everything, so this looked pretty good for my pages here. Which is why I spontaneously installed it and made myself at home. The plan is to make several seasonal themes which I can switch around as needed, then. We’ll see how long *that* will take me. Maybe I should start with a winter/ christmas theme…
While moving from one theme to the next, I had to work with my graphic tools and programs because there was a background needed and and… *g* and while I did so, I discovered several functions on those good old programms that I never saw before, LOL!! Very funny how much you can find when you know what you are looking for.
Which programs do I use? Paint.NET, Gimp, PhotoImpact 6 (yes, this does run on Win 7 bit- a bit grumpily, but it does) and rather seldomly Corel PhotoPaint.
(Of course, having Photoshop would be real nice, too, but not for my wallet. (There is PS Elements, but I think that this version is missing most of the effects that I would be using…)But no real reason to complain, really, as the mentioned programs above do basically almost everything that PS does, too, one just has to find the right buttons and get occasionally creative. *g*)
More new things – yes, new leaves! My orchids have all survived the spider mites more or less unruffled and have only finished blooming rather quickly to get into growth mode instead and are now showing lots of new leaves.
The only one blooming on unerringly is Phal. bellina, with her second blossom of this year and another is in the making.
And newly back to a pot is my small yellow hybrid that smells just as nice as Phal. bellina when blooming. It had one root left and the new ones are growing so eagerly that I moved it from the plastic bag into a mini-pot and so far it is doing very well.
Die Pflanze die ich im Januar bei Penny gerettet habe, bastelt weiter fleissig an ihrem Blütentrieb. Jetzt kann man schon die einzelnen Knospen erkennen und es werden sechs Blüten, eine mehr als im Januar. *freu*
