    Meine Orchideen sind gerade echt fleissig und bereiten eine Menge Blüten vor! Hier eine kleine Übersicht:

    Ich bin schlecht im Ziele für mein Leben setzen, aber seit 1998 habe ich einen großen Traum, der jetzt verwirklicht wird.

    Ich lerne den Umgang mit meiner ersten Waffe im Tai Chi. Damals wußte ich noch nicht, das es Tai Chi wird, aber schon, das ich am liebsten eine Hiebwaffe lernen möchte, zusammen mit Kampfkunst. Das es mit klassischem Fechten eher nichts wird, war klar, wegen meiner Knie, aber das man trotzdem so was Schönes wie die Säbelform lernen kann ist natürlich toll. Es macht Spaß und macht gesund. Wie? Natürlich wird, wie immer beim Tai Chi, der Körper beweglich gemacht und trainiert.
    Auch die Handform übe ich natürlich fleissig weiter, denn sie ist mir mindestens genauso wichtig und jetzt fange ich langsam an zu fühlen wenn etwas gut ist und genauso zu fühlen, wenn ich beginne zu entwurzeln, so dass bei jedem Durchgang mehrere Aha-Erlebnisse stattfinden, das ist ein wunderbares Gefühl. Und die Lebendigkeit, die man am Ende der Form fühlt, ist einfach berauschend.

    Und plötzlich nehmen einen auch die Fußballer ernst- wir haben heute mit offenen Jalousien geübt und die sind teilweise dreimal vorbei gelaufen um was zu holen, damit sie gucken konnten als wir die Handform geübt haben und als es dann an die Säbel ging, hörte man von draußen sogar ein „Geil! Mit Schwert!“ – ich glaube wir haben uns soeben vom Vorurteil einer Reha-Sportgruppe gelöst. *g*

    I am bad at setting (and reaching) goals for my life, but I have had one big dream since 1998 and now I am going to fullfill it.
    Just began learning the first weapon in Tai Chi. Back then I had no idea that I would learn Tai Chi one day, but I dreamed of learning something with swords and martial arts.
    I knew that classical fencing was right out of the window, because of my wonky knees, but I never would have guessed that I would one day be able to learn something so beautiful like the sabre form.
    Like all Tai Chi practises it is fun and makes you healthy, because it strengthens your body and makes you soft and agile.
    And of course there is no abandoning of the hand form, it is just as important to me. And just now I am beginning to feel when I am „in the flow“ or loose my „roots“ so there is a lot of internal „ohs and ahs“ happening whenever I practise, which is rewarding. Speaking of rewards- that feeling of being alive that you have at the end of the form is compareable to nothing I know…

    And suddenly even the soccer players at the sport club take us seriously, LOL!! Today we practised with open window blinds and they went past several times „to fetch things“ while we practised the hand form, pausing to watch. And when we got to the sabres there was even a „Wow! With swords“ from outdoors, LOL!! So now we should be rid of the rehabilitation-sport-group image that we most likely had with a lot of them. *g*

    And so – it’s a kind of magic!

    Eine Ente plante, in meinem Balkonkasten zu brüten. Gesehen habe ich sie nicht, aber wohl ihre Erdarbeiten:

    Und gestern hat sie mir sogar einen Ostergruß dagelassen:

    Enten sind süß, aber nicht im fünften Stock, und so machte ich mich daran, es ihr ungemütlich zu machen, stopfte alle freien Erdflächen voll und opferte nochmehr Hornveilchen, um Platz einzunehmen:

    Am späten Abend kam noch eine Bastelei dazu:

    Natürlich hat das die Ente nicht wirklich abgehalten- weil in der Erde Stöckchen steckten, hat sie dafür auf den Hornveilchen herumgetrampelt, während sie ihr Nest suchte. Die Flatterseile scheinen sie nicht sehr beeindruckt zu haben.
    Aber gemütlich fand sie es wohl nicht, denn meine Nachbarin hat beobachtet, wie die Ente nach einer Weile anscheinend unzufrieden abzog- und zu den Nachbarn auf der anderen Seite flog- die haben auch Lebensbäume im Kasten. *g* Ich bin gespannt.

    Ich habe mittlerweile aufgerüstet und meinen Blumen „eingetütet“. DAS sollte sie nun wirklich abhalten.

    Duck-Wars! LOL!!
    A duck planned to nest on my balcony and upturned my flowerbox repeatedly. And then yesterday, it even left me an egg. That is a clear statement. Ducks are cute, but not on a balcony on fifth floor. So I made the attempted nesting place *very* uncomfortable by cramming it with flowerpots and spiking the soil with sticks. I also added a late-night decoration made of yarn and alufoil.
    Today, the sacrificed horned violets were trampled, so the duck did indeed squeeze in there despite all the rigged up stuff- but my neighbour watched it and said the duck looked confused and uncomfortable and soon left- to fly over to my other neighbour on the other side. They have mini-trees in their box too, LOL!! We’ll see what happens there…
    I did not rely on chance, though, got myself a birdnet and rigged up my plants. Now it is your move, duck!
    (There is a chance that the plants that I could rescue will recover like this, too.)

    Im April endet der Support für Windows XP. In meinen Augen war das das beste Windows, das es bisher gab,
    Mein Laptop läuft auf XP- beziehungsweise, er lief. Die Hardware ist noch total ok, aber ich sehe täglich an den Win7 Rechnern mit denen ich arbeite, was die für einen Speicherhunger haben.
    Also wäre ich hier nach einer Installation sicherlich nicht glücklich geworden, da es zweifellos den Rechner noch langsamer gemacht hätte. Also musste eine Alternative her. Und da gibts eigentlich nur Linux.

    Linux wollte ich schon seit Jahren mal ausprobieren, nach dem ich es von Live-CDs schon auf den Rechnern laufen hatte. Das war nun die Gelegenheit.
    Damit die Umstellung nicht ganz so hart wird, habe ich mich für Ubuntu entschieden, da hier die meisten Dinge über grafische Oberflächen zu erreichen sind.

    Ich habe es also installiert und was soll ich sagen? Liebe auf den ersten Klick. Sicher wird es auch irgendwo noch Hakeligkeiten geben, aber welches Betriebssystem ist schon komplett perfekt? Irgendwo muss man immer Abstriche machen.

    Hier mal ein paar Highlights:
    Allein die Installation hat mich schon Bauklötze staunen lassen. In zwanzig Minuten war das alte Betriebssystem überschrieben und Ubuntu drauf. Es hatte bereits alles dabei was man zu Textverarbeitung und so braucht, Firefox und Thunderbird vorinstalliert, Musikplayer und und …
    Dann noch die Systemaktualierungen geladen, einen Benutzer eingerichtet -fertig. In unter einer Stunde war alles getan. Zeigt mir ein Windows, das das kann.

    Das Beste war das W-LAN. Das hat man vor der Installation einmal konfiguriert (eigentlich nur PW eingeben) und dann hat Ubuntu diese Daten während der Installation einfach mitgenommen und als das System drauf war, ging das W-LAN sofort. (Ich habe bei der Erst-Einrichtung unter Windows eine Stunde gebraucht, weil es immer wieder Fehler und Verbindungsabbrüche gab)

    Das Layout vom Desktop ist sehr ansprechend und superpraktisch, Anpassungen sind sehr einfach.

    Das Software-Center.
    Einfacher war Software Installation noch nie. Das Software Center erinnert an die App Stores für Mobilgeräte- einfach gewünschtes Programm wählen, auf Installation klicken, runterladen, fertig.

    Der Laptop ist zu lahm für Grafik-Anwendungen?
    Pustekuchen! Gimp lädt in 10 Sekunden (Windows bis zu 45 Sekunden und länger) und werkelt so flott wie man es von Rechnern mit besserem Prozessor und Speicher kennt.

    Überhaupt ist der Laptop jetzt superschnell, sowohl beim Start und Herunterfahren, als auch bei der Arbeit. „Denkpausen“ kommen fast nicht mehr vor.

    Das nur mal so im ersten Überschwang, ich bereue den Wechsel nicht, ich bereue eher das nicht eher gemacht zu haben.

    Deshalb von mir eine klare Empfehlung, falls man bereit ist, sich ein bißchen einzuarbeiten. Ein Windows darf man nicht erwarten (aber man vermisst es auch kein bißchen, so wie man etwas mit Ubuntu gearbeitet hat *g*), aber dafür bekommt man ein schnelles, stabiles System, das auch noch extrem sicher ist.
    Nur Leute, die viele PC-Spiele spielen, müssen sich vorher nochmal genau einlesen, da es da glaube ich noch nicht viele umgesetzte Versionen gibt. Browsergames sind aber kein Problem,

    English Summary
    Here comes a shameless I heart Linux post. *g*
    In April, the support for Win XP is ceased and while that is sad, as I consider it the best Windows version they ever released, it also marks the beginning of new things to explore. My laptop is running on XP – or was, because now it runs on Linux.
    It was time to look for alternatives and there was only Linux. Win7 would have made no sense, as it would have slowed down my old hardware considerably.

    I have always been interested in Linux but too chicken, but also intrigued after running some versions from bootable CD-Rom on my systems to see what they do.
    So here came the opportunity – Goodbye XP, hello Ubuntu!

    I have picked Ubuntu from the many distributions, because I wanted a gentle start and in Ubuntu, most areas are covered by use of a graphical surface, so the look and feel would not be too alien.

    So I braced myself and installed it and – I am in love, LOL!!
    I am pretty sure that there are somewhere some problems lurking, because no OS is every fully perfect, but so far I am in for a series of extremely pleasant surprises or outright joy, because things work, that never did before.

    Want a few highlights?
    The Installation- super easy and lightning fast. It took twenty minutes to erase the old system, install and be ready to go. It already had everything you need for writing doc, surfing, mailing, music and videos.
    Then I downloaded the everpersistent updates, created a user and done- in less than an hour and without the need of ten tutorials.

    Super Highlight: W-LAN
    I admit I was dreading this muchly, as it had caused so much annoyance to get the W-LAN card to run properly under Windows.
    Here, you just type in your password prior to installation, then it gets miraculously stored someplace safe and when the installation finishes, you have a working system with an established internet connection- how cool is that?!

    The layout of the desktop is neat and very nice and very easy to adapt to your preferences,

    The Software-Center
    The software-center reminds of the App-Stores for mobile devices. You select a program from a category of interest, click install and then lean back. Minutes later, the program is installed and configured.

    The laptop is too slow for graphic editors?
    Not anymore. It loads Gimp in under ten seconds (on Windows, this takes over 40 seconds) and is very able to process rendering in reasonable times.

    All in all, the laptop is turning into something fast in general, even. Boot up, shut down and work tempo are spectacularly increased.

    This is just a first happy tumble of first impressions, I do not regret the change at all- I rather regret that I waited so long.

    So from me, there is a clear thumbs up, if you are willing to invest a little time to learn about the things that are done a bit differently. You should not expect a Windows (but after working with a Ubuntu for a while, you are not missing it, either) instead you get a fast, stable and very safe system.
    Just dedicated gamers need to consider and check up the possibilites, because there is not much done for that kind of use, yet, I think. Browsergames are not a problem, of course.

    Da haben meine Orchis ja nun intetessante Gesellschaft. Die Pflanze gabs heute als Geschenk von meinen Eltern. Es ist eine „Erbse auf der Schnur“, ein Kreuzkraut oder auch Senecio rowleyanus für alle die es lieber genau wissen möchten. Total faszinierend, ich hoffe, sie lebt sich hier gut ein.

    Heute sind meine Eltern zum Kaffee gekommen, damit sie sich meine Adventsdeko in der neuen Wohnung angucken konnten. Deshalb gabs heute eine kleine Kaffeetafel:

    Morgen werde ich ihn schonmal in den Ständer setzen.

    Und dazu wird auch dies hier beitragen- meine Mutter hat mir heute diesen Glas-Eiszapfen als Geschenk mitgebracht- er stammt noch von meiner Uroma und hing im Baum meiner Eltern so lange ich denken kann. Natürlich bekommt der nun einen Ehrenplatz in meinem Baum.

    Die Orchideen sind alle brav, zwei ziehen trotz Lichtmangel eisern eine Blüte durch, zwei setzen dazu an und der Rest wuchert trotz kalter Nächte (oder vielleicht wegen dieser) sehr unbekümmert vor sich hin. Ein Gutes haben die undichten Fenster natürlich- egal wie man heizt, die Luftfeuchte fällt niemals unter 47%. *g* Das finden die Pflänzlis natürlich super.
    Hier mal ein paar Bilder von den „normalen“ Pflanzen.

    Ich glaub ich werd nicht mehr- der Zwerg versucht sich an Knospenbildung!

    Mein Croton hats nicht gepackt, er hatte Stammfäule (natürlich hab ich geguckt warum der abnibbelt bevor er wegkam)- und das hier ist sein „Ersatz“:
    Anthurium
    Blätter wie ein Monster (=Fensterblatt), Ansprüche wie eine Phalaenopsis, maximale Höhe von 1m und knallrote „Blüten“ (Hochblätter).
    Diesmal habe ich vor dem Kauf (ja, geht doch) die entsprechenden „Wie pflege ich ein…“ Seiten gelesen. Dort fand ich den Hinweis, dass diese Pflanze sich auch in Orchideen-Substrat wohlfühlt- und deshalb wurde sie von mir umgehend von Erde befreit und in Rinde gesetzt. Nun bin ich mal gespannt, gut bewurzelt ist sie, damit müsste sie auch solche Wechsel hinbekommen.

    Und vielleicht kann mal jemand der Grünlilie mitteilen, dass das ein Wohnzimmer und nicht ihr persönliches Gewächshaus ist? Sie wird immer größer…

    Plant update!
    The orchids are all being nice, two are ignoring the lack of light and bloom, two more are attempting to do so and the rest is growing happily- despite the cold nights. (Or maybe because of them, they like the difference between day and night)And of course there is one good thing about the drafty windows- the humidity never drops below 47%, no matter how much I crank up the heating. The plants sure love that. *g*
    And above some pictures of some of my „normal“ plants.

    The mini offshoot of Mum’s little Christmas-Cactus is attempting to flower! See its tiny, tiny buds! *all excited*
    The Croton did not make it, before doing away with it, I examined the reason for its failing health- the trunk was rotting inside out.
    I „replaced“ it with an Anthurium which, after studying some websites, sounded ideal as a live in. It’s leaves look like those of a Monstera, but it does not grow nowhere as tall, it has demands similar to a Phalaenopsis and likes orchid substrate, so I repotted it into bark ASAP. Since it has many good roots, it should not sulk too much about it…
    And someone please tell my Clorophytum that this is a livingroom for everybody and not just for itself? It grows and grows. o.O
